So this is the map at the trail head that we glanced at and didn't photograph until we made it back down the trail. We took the North trail and followed it around, enjoying the Waldron Overlook, took the high road around the center loop trail, and then to the top of Ship Peak Overlook. The broken lines denote a small dirt trail instead of a path big enough to drive. We went the wrong way on the way back, down the South Trail. When we realized it we turned around and doubled back. I wanted to cry. It was uphill and we had enough backtracking to do.
We took the bottom of the Loop to see different scenery on the return trip but it seemed to go on forever....
There was always a upward bend in the road. This was taken on our way up not back.
This is Walron Overlook. It was truly gorgeous. The shade felt nice and cool on our sweaty backs and faces. We both forgot to wear deodorant!!
I found a wild horse to ride.
The colors alone were a beautiful contrast, but the decay of the Cedars was a study in the lifecycle of old growth forests.
Not all the wildlife was on four feet. This Banana Slug was the first I've seen this year. We only saw one Deer and it was startled to see anyone in "his yard".
This Green Elephant was the first Wildlife we saw. He must have moved because we didn't see him again on our way back down the hill.
